Comprised of senior executives from over 30 different countries, the Trium Executive Global MBA (Trium EMBA) program at the London School of Economics reaches across the globe. As busy executives, the MBA students need flexibility to complete their work, anytime, anyplace.
To meet their diverse needs, the Trium EMBA program uses the Echo360 platform to offer a hybrid learning experience comprised of online learning, interspersed with six in-person modules in six different cities across the globe. The top-ranked global executive program is jointly issued by the London School of Economics, New York University Stern School of Business, and HEC Paris School of Management. The 17-month program requires 15-20 hours of independent study, including pre- and post-module reading, case studies, group work, assignments and a Capstone project. “The Echo360 tool is being used as a remote-learning tool,” says Dan Roberts, TLS Manager. “Students have concentrated sessions on campus here in London for a week at a time, and then are expected to complete assignments on their own time. One of most high profile courses involves collaboration from four different global institutions. We bring together all of this material – from New York, London, China, and another rotating guest institution - into the Echo360 platform.”
Ability to replay learning helps students from diverse backgrounds
Trium EMBA students come from diverse industry backgrounds, including engineering, banking and finance, legal, medicine, and IT. The class of 2016 alone represents 33 different nationalities from around the world. All of the courses are taught in English, but for many students, English is not their native language.
“The course work is extremely challenging and rigorous, and it can be difficult for students if English is not their first language,” adds Roberts. “So, the ability to watch and re-watch portions of lectures is extremely helpful to the students. They rely heavily on the recorded material in order to make the most of the time they spend on campus.”
Evolving from lecture capture to active learning
The London School of Economics, one of the partner institutions jointly administering the Trium Global EMBA program, is one of the earliest adopters and largest users of Echo360 in the United Kingdom. According to Roberts, they are migrating from the audio-visual technology to Echo360’s new active learning platform.
“I’m looking forward to moving to the new cloud-based platform,” Roberts says. “We are also interested in the student engagement and response tools that are built into the active learning platform. Having the teaching tools integrated into the system is a very important feature.”
“The use of Echo360 in our global EMBA program and widely deployed throughout our other programs at LSE has had a positive effect for our students. Students love having it, because it gives them the ability to easily review for exams and contributes to overall student satisfaction with teaching. Students now expect to have their lectures recorded, and the popularity of Echo360 keeps growing.”
