I hope that all of our US readers enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family. This week, I am pinch hitting for my colleague Leslie Silvey, who is traveling on assignment for Echo360. She’ll return to the helm of “Leslie’s List” next week.

In the meantime if you’ve had your fill of Thanksgiving turkey, pumpkin pie, and football, here are a few of the most newsworthy items from the world of higher education and ed-tech that caught my eye .

  • What if students had the opportunity to study core concepts at their own pace and on their own time, freeing up face-to-face time with instructors for more in-depth work? What if students could continue their studies regardless of whether or not they were on campus? These are just a few of many ideas under consideration at some of the top research universities in the US as they contemplate a more flexible future.

  • Technology has changed higher education and it will continue to do so. Instructors will embrace technology if they feel confident in the learning experience it provides for their students. Read these 5 important rules when introducing technology into the classroom.

  • Many people are publically questioning the value of a college education. Did you read Leslie’s post on the CNN film Ivory Tower? One of the most compelling arguments about why a college education still matters was written by high school senior Amanda Siegel. Read her piece, Liberal arts, or something more practical?

  • Many of our universities are entering their winter break period. It’s the perfect time for educators to catch up on the latest trends in their profession. These 7 education books provide something for everyone at all levels. They also make great holiday gifts!
