Once again, I am sitting in for my colleague Leslie Silvey this week. Rumor has it that Leslie is celebrating a milestone birthday! So Leslie, from all of us at Echo360, we wish you a very Happy Birthday and hope you have a great celebration!

This week marked the official National Teacher Appreciation Week and Teacher Appreciation Day here in the United States. I’m sure that when we look back, most of us can name a special teacher in our life. As the popular saying goes, “if you can read this, thank a teacher!” So, this week we thank all of those fearless teachers out there. May they continue to lead, to mold, to motivate, and to inspire all of us to greater heights.

Here’s our recap of some of the top articles of the week. Most of them have a teacher-inspired theme.

The role of teacher / instructor is evolving, but even in this era of “self-directed” learning, the teacher’s role is still vital. Here’s a great article that asks questions about this new age of self-directed learning.
Just like Mark Twain, we think that reports of teaching’s demise are premature. But, it is evolving to that of facilitating critical thinking, directing student research, and creating lifelong learners.  Here’s a very interesting article that asks whether “digital natives” are killing the “sage on the stage.
Do the skills involved in being proficient in social media mean you’ll be a good online instructor?  Here’s very interesting article on how these two activities go together.
And finally, technology is playing an ever-increasing and important role in the classroom. So we’re sharing a great infographic on how technology transforms learning and teaching.

Next week is the first stop on our 2015 Active Learning World Tour in the beautiful city of Chicago at the University of Illinois in Chicago. It’s your chance to connect with the Echo360 team and a star-studded team of academic active learning rock stars to see why active learning tops the charts when it comes to better learning outcomes.
